Talking Below the Mason Dixon Line

When it comes to talking, Southerners have a knack for a slow drawl and extra sweet catch-phrases that are quite different from the rest of the country. Earlier today, my friends posted an article on Facebook, titled “15 Southern Sayings That The Rest of America Won’t Understand” and I knew I had to share it with y’all. Of course, the list entails the more common phrases, such as “Bless your heart” and “She’s madder than a wet hen”, but also includes some of the lesser known Southern sayings. Some of my favorites from the lesser known are: “We’re living in high cotton” and “He thinks the sun comes up just to hear him crow.”

Whether you are from the North, South, West or East, you can count on the South for having a very distinctive way of talking. As a Southerner, I believe it is something we pride ourselves on and don’t take for granted. It sets us apart, makes us unique, and is one of the many things I love about the South.
