Recipe Wednesday-Kentucky Derby Style

T-minus three days until Southerners, horse-lovers, and more will gather at Churchill Downs for the 140th Kentucky Derby. From now until then, I will bring you a daily post about the historic race, starting with a race classic-a Mint Julep recipe.

Did you know that over 120,000 mint juleps will be consumed on Saturday? This classic Southern beverage has been the official drink of the Kentucky Derby, since the first horse races in 1875.

Learn how you can make your own!

Mint Julep:

4-5 Fresh Mint Leaves

2 tsp. Water

1.5 tsp Powdered Sugar

2.5 oz. Bourbon

1. Mix together water and powdered sugar. Then, add the bourbon.

2. Fill your glass with ice and pour liquid into glass. Garnish with mint leaves.

Here’s My Number, Call Me Maybe

(310) 493-7939. Dial it and singer Adam Levine just might pick up.

Ok, maybe not, because that number has since been discontinued, but on last night’s episode of The Voice, coach Blake Shelton tweeted out fellow coach (Adam) Levine’s cell phone number to his six million plus twitter followers.

The banter started with Levine calling Shelton stupid, to which the ‘Doin’ What She Likes’ singer responded: “I just found the craziest thing in my phone!!! Your PERSONAL cell phone number… hope I’m not stupid enough to tweet it out.”

A few tweets later and then….well, you know the rest. This morning on TODAY, The Voice host Carson Daly confirmed the number tweeted was, in fact, Levine’s actual cell phone number.

Any guesses on how the ‘Moves Like Jaggar’ singer will get revenge on the country crooner?

Lost Radio Program featuring Country Music Legend to be Released

Unreleased recordings of country music legend Hank Williams performing songs on a 1950 radio show will be released next month.

“The Garden Spots Programs, 1950” features previously taped 24 songs and jingles that aired on early country radio stations. Most of the tapes were lost. However, KSIB-AM in Creston, Iowa saved their copies.

The restored copies will be available for download and on vinyl May 20 by Omnivore Records.

All Southerners Are Royals

Leave it to Prince George to prove that all Southerners are basically royals. While touring Australia and New Zealand with parents, Prince Williams and Duchess of Cambridge Kate, Prince George was spotted wearing some very Southern apparel.

His wardrobe included the white on white on white, the John Johns, and of course, the monogram. He has also been seen previously wearing the ultra-famous gown for his baptism and another monogram for the family photo.
